There are three trims which accompany the Grosfillex Panels to help the user fit the panels correctly. These trims are:
- Multifunction – Internal Corner
- External Corner – usually only used when doing a full bathroom
- Endcap section – Around floor and ceiling, also around windows and doors.
There may be a slight variance in colour difference between batches of the product. Please ensure that you are satisfied with the colour in advance of fitting.
There are two different methods of putting up the Grosfillex panels;
The first thing you need to do is attach all the trims to the walls around the shower or bathroom. The trims can either be stapled, screwed to the block or silicone. If you apply the trims with silicone you must leave them to set overnight.
We recommend you use a low modulus silicone like Sealux N Silicone.
Do not apply the trims or panels with grip fill or other construction adhesives as they have no flexibility and if there is any movement in the wall the adhesive will pull the board and warp it.
Once you have your trim up or they have set off, you can then start to put up the Grosfillex panels.
Start in the left of the room or wall, and follow round the room perimeter, finishing where you started.
Fix on the wall in the following way;
- Respect intervals of 1.20m if using screws- to adjust the wall
- Respect intervals of 400cm if stapling to wall
- Repeat this procedure for the remainder of the panel strips by shifting the fixing points each time
With the first of the panels into the trim on the left hand side, you have to cut the little lip of the panel, so that the panel sits squarely into the trims.
After you fix the first panel on, you slide the one panel into the other according to the tongue and groove method. After this, clip on the front housing of the trims.
You will need 1 tube of silicone for 3 10” panels and 1 tube of silicone for 2 15” panels. Do not be sparing with the silicone. Make sure to spread it all over the back of the board and around the edges, so that most of the board is in contact with the wall.
Grosfillex Panels are self sealing and therefore do not need any silicone in the joints. By putting silicone in the joint, you will create a waterlog and over a period of time this will create a smell in your bathroom.
This method of putting up Grosfillex will conceal visible wall imperfections.
- Choose minimum thickness for wooden runner/laths of 27mm
- Fix a runner in each angle and around the door and windows. The runner will act as a support for the Grosfillex trims.
- Fix the runners in a row on the wall at intervals of 60cm. Ensure air circulation if room is damp.
- Place polystyrene insulation between each of the laths, this will give the board support and stop it bowing in the middle under pressure.
- Drill the holes directly into the runners
- After all parts of the runners are secured, position the first trim
- Make sure that this well balanced – this will ensure perfect guidance throughout your application
- Screw or staple the panel onto every runner along the wall
- Repeat the procedure for the remainder of the panel strips, finishing by clipping on the front housing of the trims.
Always remember when using both methods of panelling, to ensure that the multifunction trim is securely fixed to the panels, this in turn will guarantee the grosfillex to be waterproof and imperishable.
When using the panelling around a shower tray or bath you will need to use a high quality bath trim, we recommend Sealux Cladseal Bath trim. View Cladseal fitting guide.
NEVER use abrasive cleaners on Grosfillex Panels, only use warn soapy water to remove any marks. If abrasive cleaners are used this will take the gloss finish of the boards.
PUTTING UP A GROSFILLEX CEILING
Grosfillex covered walls can be complimented by using Brilliant White 15” for the ceiling. This is the only board which is recommended for use on the ceiling.
This panel comes with a grey joiner attached to one side of the board, a spare length of the joiner comes in the pack of Grosfillex and this is split between the three boards and run width ways to join to two boards.
The principle for fitting this panel to the ceiling is the same as a wooden floor; the panels will click into each other from all sides.
You can screw or staple this panel up onto plasterboard.
If you are putting up a grosfillex ceiling and grosfillex on the walls, you can either put the ceiling up first or put the wall panels up first but ensure that an 8mm gap is left between the trims and the ceiling all the way round. This ensures that the board can be slid in over the trim all the way round the edges. |
